Your law firm in Madrid

When people look for a lawyer in Madrid, they usually have a specific problem and little time: a court summons, a dismissal, a divorce, a blocked inheritance or a debt that is not being paid. What you need is a lawyer who understands your case, tells you clearly what you can do and stays with you throughout the process.

At R. Sánchez Abogados, this is how we work. Each matter is handled by a lawyer in the relevant area, with support from the rest of the team when the case touches several areas of law at once. A dismissal can affect a Social Security benefit; a separation can affect the family home and the family business. In a multidisciplinary law firm, complex cases are easier to coordinate: with every area under one roof, you do not have to go from one firm to another.

We act for individuals, self-employed professionals, companies and businesses in all sectors. Each client deals directly with their own lawyer, receives information at every stage of the proceedings and has their interests defended from the first filing to the judgment.

How to choose a good lawyer in Madrid

There is no ranking of lawyers in Madrid that works for every case. The first step is to identify the area of law your matter belongs to (criminal, employment, family, civil, administrative…) and look for a lawyer who works in that field. Before you hire anyone, it is worth checking:

  • That they work in the relevant area. A criminal lawyer does not handle a dismissal in the same way as an employment lawyer.
  • That they have handled cases like yours and know the Madrid courts and the time limits of each procedure.
  • That they are registered with a bar association. Every practising lawyer in Spain must be registered with a bar association (colegio de la abogacía); in Madrid, the Illustrious Bar Association of Madrid (ICAM) has thousands of members. You can check registration in the public register of the General Council of Spanish Bar Associations (Consejo General de la Abogacía Española).
  • That they assess the real viability of your case at the first consultation. A good lawyer tells you what is possible and what is not, without promising results.
  • That they are accessible and speak plainly. You should be able to reach them when you need to, and they should explain the process without jargon. Accessibility matters a great deal in your relationship with your lawyer.
  • That they put the terms in writing. Ask for an engagement letter (hoja de encargo) setting out the work to be done, the expected time frames and the terms of payment. These depend on the complexity of the matter and the stages of the procedure, so be wary of fixed figures before anyone has looked at your case.
  • That they have a good reputation, backed up by client reviews and independent sources, not only by their own website.

Large firm or multidisciplinary law firm?

Large law firms in Madrid focus mainly on complex corporate transactions, cross-border matters and major business litigation. For the most common legal problems of individuals, self-employed professionals and small businesses, a multidisciplinary firm is usually a better fit: it covers the areas of law needed most often day to day and brings several lawyers together when a case requires it, with more direct contact.

Frequently asked questions about our lawyers in Madrid

Which areas of law does your Madrid law firm cover?

We are a multidisciplinary law firm: criminal, civil, employment, immigration, family, inheritance, housing, traffic accidents, Social Security, administrative, commercial, tax, consumer, banking and the Second Chance Law.

Where is your office in Madrid?

At Paseo de la Castellana, 121, 28046 Madrid. We are open Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 8:00 pm, by appointment.

Do I have to go to the office to hire a lawyer?

It is not essential. You can handle the whole matter by phone, email and video call. If you prefer to meet your lawyer, we will book you an appointment at the Madrid office.

Do you act for companies or only for individuals?

Both. We advise individuals and families, and also self-employed professionals, businesses and companies on employment, commercial, tax, civil and criminal matters.

What should I have ready for the first call?

A short explanation of what has happened and, if you have it to hand, the main documents: the dismissal letter, the court notification, the contract or the will. If you do not have them, we can still get started.

Can you take my case if I live outside Madrid?

Yes. We act across the Community of Madrid and the rest of Spain, in person at our six offices or remotely.

What happens after I contact you?

We call you to hear about your case. The lawyer for the relevant area studies it, gives you an initial view on how to approach the matter and explains your options and the terms before we start. You decide whether to go ahead once you have heard them.

When do I get the terms in writing?

After we have studied your case and before we start. We give it to you in writing in the engagement letter (hoja de encargo), together with the work included and the time frames. It depends on the complexity of the matter and the stages of the procedure, which is why we do not give figures without knowing the case.

How can I tell if a lawyer is trustworthy?

Check that they are registered with a bar association, that they work in the area of your problem, that they explain the steps and the terms clearly, and that other clients recommend them. On Google you can read the 733 reviews from our clients.

Which is the best law firm in Madrid?

It depends on your matter. For a criminal, employment or family case, what matters is a lawyer who works in that area, knows the Madrid courts and deals with you directly. Our firm brings together lawyers from every area of law under one roof. Rather than comparing rankings of law firms, it is better to choose one with real experience in the specific area of your matter.

We also have offices in other cities: see our lawyers in Barcelona, lawyers in Seville, lawyers in Málaga, lawyers in Córdoba and lawyers in Palma de Mallorca, or all our offices.
