Immigration lawyer in Spain

English-speaking immigration lawyers across Spain

We are a law firm that provides immigration services across Spain, in English, from our offices in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Málaga, Córdoba and Palma de Mallorca, and online. Our immigration team advises foreign nationals who live in Spain or are about to move here: residence and work permits, renewals, roots permits (arraigo), visas, family reunification, Spanish citizenship, asylum and appeals.

Immigration law is the same throughout Spain: Organic Law 4/2000 on the rights and freedoms of foreigners (LO 4/2000) and its Regulations, approved by Royal Decree 1155/2024. What changes from one city to another is the office that handles your file. Each province has its own Immigration Office (Oficina de Extranjería), part of the Government Delegation or Sub-delegation, which decides most residence applications. Your foreigner identification number (NIE, Número de Identidad de Extranjero) identifies you before the Spanish authorities, and the TIE (foreigner identity card, Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero) is the physical card you collect at a National Police station once your permit is granted. Spanish citizenship by residence is decided by the Ministry of Justice, wherever you live.

If your matter is in Madrid or Barcelona, our city pages explain how the local Immigration Office works and the procedures we handle most there. Anywhere else in Spain, we work with you at one of our offices or online. If you have questions about your situation, book an appointment and we will answer them before any application is filed.

Applications, renewals and changes of residence permits (permiso de residencia), with a check of your eligibility and the right route before we file: non-lucrative residence, residence and work as an employee or self-employed, long-term residence and residence through family reunification.

Visas for students, work and residence, including the non-lucrative residence visa and the digital nomad visa, with the documents the Spanish consulate in your country asks for: certificates, documentation and the submission at the consulate.

Spanish citizenship (Spanish nationality) by residence and by option: requirements, the Instituto Cervantes exams (DELE and CCSE), documents from your country, legalised or apostilled and translated if they are not in Spanish, and follow-up of the file before the Ministry of Justice.

If your citizenship application is refused or there is no decision in time, we lodge an administrative appeal for reconsideration (recurso de reposición) or a judicial appeal before the National High Court (Audiencia Nacional).

Advice and representation in applications for asylum and international protection, support at the interview and appeals if protection is refused.

  • Defence in expulsion and return proceedings: written arguments, appeals and applications to lift an entry ban. In the fast-track procedure (procedimiento preferente) you have only 48 hours to submit your arguments, so contact us as soon as you are notified.

Defence in penalty proceedings under the Immigration Act, for individuals and for companies that employ foreign workers.

Bringing your spouse or partner, your minor children or your dependent parents or grandparents to Spain: the authorisation, the documents and the family reunification visa at the consulate.

For people who have been living in Spain without authorisation. The current Regulations set out five roots permits (arraigo): social, employment, training, family and second chance. As a general rule you need to prove two years in Spain, so we check how you can document that time before we file.

Renewal of your residence before it expires, within the deadlines set by the Regulations, and the move to long-term residence. We plan the renewal so your status does not lapse: filing late can lead to a penalty or, if too much time passes, mean starting again.

The EU family member residence card (tarjeta comunitaria) for the spouse or registered partner of a citizen of the European Union, and residence for family members of a Spanish citizen.

If you are moving to Spain to work, our tax lawyers check whether you can opt for the Beckham Law (special tax regime for inbound workers) alongside your residence permit.
